GEM THEATREWAS CONSTRUCTED AFTER THE 1911 FIRE AS THE EMPRESS THEATRE.
It was the home of silent films and vaudeville acts until 1931 when the 'talkies' came to town.

Named the 'GEM' in the fifties, The Cinema continued to be the hotspot for the City of Grand Forks and the surrounding area. Peter and Mary Ambrosimoff owned and operated the theatre for almost 30 years until it was sold in 1988 to Marius and Maureen Paquet.
Today, the GEM is still one of the best loved and nostalgic businesses in Grand Forks. Adults returning to the area on vacation love to take in a movie and reminisce on their first time visit to the GEM.Tourists from larger centers find the local theatre a quaint and intriguing antique and love to take in a flick!
